Taking pictures of Rosie is what inspired me to forge ahead with my photography. Come to think of it … Rosie has been the inspiration of a lot of my creativity. There are people in this world who don’t think dogs can teach them anything. I’m here to tell you differently.
Rosie came into our life in January 1997. We adopted her from the Seattle Humane Society in Bellevue. To be quite honest, she picked us out. And we couldn’t help but fall in love with her. How can you not fall in love with those deep brown soulful eyes?
The stories and events that have unfolded over the last 13 years are entertaining, heart-warming, and endearing. If you’ve ever had a dog, you likely know what I mean. “Where did that bag of bagels go that was on the counter top? We had 4 or 6 in there!” At almost 3-years old, Rosie’s belly was tight as a drum, filled with…um…bagels!! She had a look of “Yum” and “Ugh” on her face…all at one time. Some dogs just don’t know when to stop eating, and Rosie is no exception.
After battling (and winning) against cancer (a mast cell tumor) in February 2007, we are faced with yet another challenge. Rosie was diagnosed this month with an inoperable malignant spindle cell tumor that is located on the top of her rear. Prognosis doesn’t sound good, in fact it’s the first time we’ve ever been given a timeline. They said 3 to 6 months. If you could see Rosie today, you might think differently. How can such a lively, lovable 14-1/2 year old only have 6-months to live? Well she’s already beaten most odds, and we hope she beats the latest challenge too. But we are trying our best to be realistic and understand the long road ahead of us.
We are thankful for each and every day we have with Rosie. She was a “fur angel” sent to us from God above. She has taught us so much, and has given us even more, all the while never asking for anything in return (except to be fed promptly at 6am and 4pm). We love her, and will continue to care for her and do what is in her best interest. Thank you to all our friends and family members who have kept her in your prayers.
